Honda Accord Facelift Review & Test Drive
Honda Accord Overview
James Atkinson, an inventor in the mid-1800, gave us the cycle engine technology where the arrangement used poppet valves, a cam and an over-center arm to produce four piston strokes for each revolution of the crankshaft. This resulted in significantly longer compression and intake strokes than the exhaust and power strokes. What this translates into is a more fuel efficient engine. The Honda Accord Hybrid is one modern example of a heritage technology that has witnessed evolution over the years and has been applied in hybrid vehicles. My first impressions were quite lasting about the new offering from the Japanese carmaker. Let’s find out all the details then.
Honda Accord Exteriors
The Honda Accord does wear an all-new dress on the outside and in my opinion, this is one of the prettiest Accords ever made. The overall design is very edgy and yet understated. The full LED headlamps have to be our favourite element and you do get a simple daytime running light, a LED low beam and a LED high beam setup. The LED fog lamps on the bottom continue the trend and compliment the headlamps well. The front bumper is also quite sporty and the gloss black element in the centre really helps bring out a well balanced look when combined with the chrome and black grille. Although there isn’t much to talk about in terms of other design elements, we do like the LED combination tail lamps, the built in boot spoiler and the well crafted rear bumper. The 18-inch two toned diamond cut wheels ties up the overall design well.
Honda Accord Interiors
Step into the Honda Accord and the spacious and bring cabin feels welcoming. The leather seats are standard and electrically adjustable offering a soft and comfortable seating position with surprisingly good lumbar support. The rear seats too are wide, offer good support and have equally good leg room. The Accord has never disappointed in rear seat comfort and this new generation continues the trend. There is a good amount of wood accent pieces along with a gloss black central console.
There are two central screens, one for the infotainment system that comes with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the other mounted slightly further away from the driver providing a display of what the engine modes are and how the drive is being transmitted. One of the most useful features has to be the passenger side camera that virtually eliminated blind spots and helps you change lanes. It activates by flicking the left indicator on or by pressing a button on the indicator stalk. The Accord Hybrid also gets the usual two-stage climate control, cruise control and a sun-roof as part of standard equipment. On the whole then, the Accord is a quite and comfortable place to be in.Book Honda Accord test drive in Chennai at Tryaldrive.
Honda Accord Performance
The premium sedan sources its power from the 2.0L i-VTEC engine which produces 145PS and 175Nm of max torque. The powertrain is coupled with a 1.3 kWh Li-ion battery which generates 183PS and 315Nm of max torque. The joint power production comes to an impressive 215PS and 490Nm of peak torque. The power is transmitted via e-CVT gearbox that provides three driving modes viz. EV Mode, ECON Mode and Sport Mode. Where EV is meant for pure electric operation, ECON mode and Sport mode are for enhanced fuel efficiency and performance respectively.
The hybrid models are known for silent start and this one is no exception. It’s only when you press the accelerator a bit you will come to know that the car is alive. The pure electric mode can support till 2kms and then engine takes the charge. The transition from electric to gasoline is also seamless with pleasantly crisp throttle response. The demeanour of the car is relaxed and blends perfectly with a certain level of smoothness which is complemented by CVT gearbox.
With hybrid technology on board, Honda claims that Accord offers highest fuel economy in the segment. The sedan has also an ECON button and pressing this enhances the fuel economy which the company claims is 23.1kmpl, certified by ARAI.To know more information on Honda Accord check Painpeters

The active electronic dampers in the suspension setup makes sure the sedan doesn’t get rattled over undulations. The ride is a bit stiff but that said, it isn’t unsettling. The slight stiffness keeps the sedan composed over tight corners and the driver doesn’t lose confidence at any speed. Overall, my experience with the luxury sedan’s ride quality and handling left a lasting impression like its predecessors.

Honda Accord Verdict
So, the Accord Hybrid is loaded with features and can run over 900 kilometres on a full tank of fuel with the combination of the electric motor and the Atkinson’s cycle engine. The spacious and well-appointed cabin keeps even taller occupants in complete comfort and offers impressive safety as well.
The Honda Accord Hybrid then is the car for an environmentally conscious buyer who wants a practical luxury sedan that is loaded with features. The only grouse is that unlike the Toyota Camry Hybrid which is assembled here, the Accord Hybrid is a direct import which means you’ll have to pay Rs 37 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, to get one to your home. That slots it dangerously close to the price bracket of the luxury sedans by the German carmakers although those cars are smaller than the Accord Hybrid.
Honda Accord is offered in only one variant that is the hybrid one. In terms of pricing, Honda Accord Hybrid gets the price tag of Rs. 43.21 lakh, ex-showroom, New Delhi. Honda Accord currently takes on the likes such as Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb and Toyota Camry hybrid in the premium sedan segment.
